When to come to Hospital

Always call the Hospital and speak to a Midwife in Birthing Suite before leaving for the Hospital. Ask your Obstetrician if they have any special recommendations for you for when to come to Hospital.

If this is your first baby with a healthy pregnancy and no other complications you will usually be advised as a guide to come to Hospital when the contractions are at regular 5 minute intervals and lasting approximately 45 seconds. If you live some distance from the Hospital, or are finding it difficult to cope with the contractions phone the Midwives at the Hospital and they can advise you.

If your waters break, even if you are not in labour, you will need to contact Birthing Suite and come into Hospital at that time.

Do not hesitate to call the Midwives in Birthing Suite, available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Contact the Hospital or your Doctor immediately if you have any of the following:

• Vaginal bleeding
• Reduced fetal movements
• Frontal or recurring headaches
• Sudden swelling
• Rupture of the membranes (waters break)
• Premature onset of contractions (before 37 weeks)

After Hours Birthing Suite Access

If you are advised by a midwife to come to Hospital after 8pm, you will require assistance from Security to access the building. For safety reasons, we request that you park on ground level. Please press the intercom at the hospital entrance to alert our Security Officer of your arrival. A Security Officer will assist you to the Maternity Unit on Level 2. Security will also assist with moving your car into the underground car park. If you have parked in the underground car park, there are also intercoms located in the public lift lobbies on levels B1 and B2.
