Wollongong Private Hospital clocks 100 robotic cases

Feb 14, 2019

Under the experienced hand of Associate Professor Peter Chin, Wollongong Private Hospital will reach a notable milestone today – 100 robotic surgical procedures completed, assisted by the da Vinci Xi Surgical System.

Just 10 months ago, A/Prof Chin performed the hospital’s first robotic-assisted prostatectomy. Since then eight surgeons have undertaken training in the use of the da Vinci, now offering patients the choice of robotic-assisted surgery in the fields of Urology, Gynaecology and Colorectal Surgery.

Wollongong Private Hospital CEO, David Crowe, reflects on the remarkable progress made in the short time, “We’re incredibly proud of the dedication from our surgeons and staff who have worked hard to establish and grow a world-class robotic surgery service for residents for the Illawarra. These 100 patients have all experienced first-hand the benefits of access to leading medical technology close to home, while having their support network of friends and family nearby for their recovery.”
