It’s official! New hospital is unveiled

Feb 19, 2016

One month after it quietly began servicing the region, Wollongong Private Hospital is ready for its official unveiling.

On Friday, February 19, Wollongong Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM will declare the facility open for business, marking a new era in health care for the Illawarra.

The world-class, 151-bed venue will help revolutionise regional health, giving patients greater choice and options in care, bringing new services to the area and enabling private healthcare patients to be treated closer to home.

Wollongong Private Hospital CEO David Crowe says staff and patients have settled in well to the facility which will continue to develop over coming months.

“The hospital is already setting high standards with its all-digital operating theatres, state-of-the-art equipment and range of medical, surgical and maternity services,” he said.

“Our video nurse call system promotes better access between patient and nurse, our new equipment allows for the most efficient sterilising process available and our integrated theatre system has major implications for teaching and collaboration.

“It is our aim to give people of the Illawarra the best care possible within easy access, allowing them more choice and negating the need to travel to Sydney for some procedures. This, in turn will ease the burden on them and their carers.”

Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM said he was delighted to be asked to open the hospital which further enhances the region’s health services at a time when the population continues to grow.

“Wollongong Private Hospital provides our region with new and expanded services that are vital to our population and will work in tandem with existing medical facilities,” he said.

“Their technical standards and full range of services have the ability to draw more doctors to the region, increase employment opportunities for local workers across a wide range of jobs and increase the options available for patients.

“Wollongong Private Hospital can only have a positive impact on our community.”

Since opening on January 18, Wollongong Private Hospital has admitted 1281 patients, completed 1159 procedures and delivered 41 babies. The official opening of the hospital is on-site at 12.30pm.
