Wollongong Private Hospital set to boost regional employment

The opening of the Wollongong Private Hospital in early 2016 is set to boost employment figures for staff levels across a range of services.

In addition to the 360 employees who currently work at Figtree Private Hospital, an extra 120 staff are being employed in the lead-up to the hospital’s opening in January.

A second round of recruitment, targeting an additional 40 to 50 staff members, is slated for mid 2016 when a range of new services begin operation in the hospital.

The two intakes will add approximately 160 new staff to the hospital’s roster, taking the company’s staffing level to about 520 employees.

Wollongong Private Hospital Chief Executive Officer David Crowe says jobs are being created across a range of services to ensure a seamless transition into the new premises and to cater for the extra state-of-the-art facilities available in the new hospital.

“It is a great step for us to be able to build on the staffing levels we currently boast at Figtree Private Hospital but also to be able to offer people the chance to work in the same city in which they live,” he said.

“We’re finding that these employment opportunities are bringing locals back to Wollongong as well as introducing some highly- qualified people to the beauty of the region.

“By the middle of 2016 we will be employing about 520 people at Wollongong Private Hospital and that’s not just in the traditional fields of doctors and nurses. It includes managers, administration staff, hospital services and pharmacy workers. There have been roles on offer across the board and the search is not yet over.

“We are currently recruiting for Theatre Nurse and Registered Midwife positions to staff our state-of-the-art facilities.”

Crowe says that by mid 2016 there will also be approximately 50 new specialists providing services at Wollongong Private, taking the number of accredited specialists on the team to 315.

Wollongong Private Hospital will open in January.
