Work commences on the new private hospital for Wollongong

Wollongong's Lord Mayor, Cr Gordan Bradbery OAM joined Chairman of Ramsay Health Care, Mr Paul Ramsay AO on the 12th of November in turning the first sod of the development of a world class private health care facility in Wollongong.

The official sod turn marks the commencement of work on the new $90 million medical precinct development including a 4.5 floor private hospital operated by Ramsay Health Care.

The turning of the sod ceremony was held on site and was well attended by representatives from Ramsay Health Care, local Specialist Doctors and the Figtree Private Hospital Management team.

The new private facility will feature 150 beds with state of the art equipment, facilities and patient services occupying 4.5 floors of the 7 storey building, $90 million medical precinct development being built by AA Crown Holdings.

The development will also house medical suites, diagnostic services, primary health care services and substantial car parking in a three level subterranean car park.

The facility will offer a full range of medical, surgical and maternity services including an intensive care unit, nine operating theatres, a hybrid angiography laboratory and a day oncology unit.

The new private hospital will bring much needed new private health care services to the Illawarra region providing enhanced and expanded hospital services for the area.

Mr David Crowe, Chief Executive Officer of Figtree Private Hospital said that Ramsay Health Care was very excited to be starting construction on such a significant project.

Over 200 jobs are expected to be created in a range of disciplines.

Construction is being managed by AW Edwards and is expected to be completed by late 2015.
