Ramsay serves up one of Australia’s largest on demand hospital dining networks

Sep 03, 2026

Ramsay Health Care is set to create one of Australia’s most expansive on-demand hospital dining networks, giving patients greater choice and flexibility over what they eat and when they eat it.

After successful deployment at two Ramsay hospitals, At Your Request Dining launched at Wollongong Private Hospital this week as Ramsay begins expanding the new dining model across its Australian hospital network.

Similar to familiar hotel room service dining or popular food delivery services, patients and their carers can scan a QR code from their hospital room to browse the menu, choose their meal and place an order at no additional cost for delivery during designated service hours.

Ramsay Health Care Director of Hotel Services Philip Capps said the new model would rethink traditional hospital dining by giving patients greater control over when and what they eat.

“We’re bringing hospital dining closer to the experience people are now used to outside hospital – being able to browse a broad menu, choose what they want and order when it suits them,” Mr Capps said.

“The flexibility is particularly important in hospital, where procedures, treatment or simply how a patient is feeling can affect when they want to eat. This model gives them more freedom to choose a meal or snack at a time that works for them.”

“By preparing fresh meals on demand, we can deliver exactly what our patients want at the time they want it, rather than asking them to order meals a day in advance. We’ve seen that transition drive a substantial reduction in food waste at our hospitals already offering At Your Request dining,” he said.

The menu will feature dishes such as grilled fillet of salmon with roasted chat potatoes and mesclun salad or miso white beans with sage roasted pumpkin, alongside familiar comfort dishes, lighter meals, snacks and desserts, with options catering for individual dietary needs, allergies and cultural or religious requirements.

Team members will remain available to help patients and their carers with ordering and ensure meals can be coordinated with their individual care and treatment.

Wollongong Private Hospital Chief Executive Officer Steven Rajcany said the hospital was looking forward to giving patients more flexibility during their stay.

“When you’re in hospital, the little things can make a big difference to your experience. Being able to choose what you feel like eating and when you’re ready to eat gives patients back some of the normality and independence they have at home,” Mr Rajcany said.

Mr Capps said lessons from each hospital would help Ramsay refine the service as it is introduced more widely.

“This is about much more than changing how patients order a meal. It’s about making food and dining a better part of the hospital experience, while also changing the way we prepare and serve food across our hospitals,” Mr Capps said.

Ramsay plans to progressively expand At Your Request Dining across its Australian hospitals, creating what will become the country’s largest on-demand hospital dining network.
