Wollongong Private Hospital marks 10 years of caring for the community

Jan 30, 2026

Wollongong Private Hospital is marking its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of clinical growth, innovation and commitment to caring for the Illawarra community.

Since opening in 2016, the 171-bed private hospital has grown into a major centre for specialist and complex care in the region, providing patients with access to high-quality services close to home.

Over the past decade, the hospital has achieved a series of significant milestones, from delivering more than 9,000 babies, performing more than 1,000 cardiac procedures and more than 5,000 robotic assisted procedures across specialities including orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology and general surgery.

The hospital now provides all major acute services, including an intensive care unit, operating theatres, cardiac and vascular laboratories, and an endoscopy suite.

Its broad surgical capability includes cardiothoracics, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, bariatric surgery, gynaecological surgery, general surgery and plastics.

Wollongong Private Hospital CEO Steve Rajcany said the anniversary was a time to reflect on both the hospital’s growth and the trust placed in it by the community.

“Over the past decade, Wollongong Private Hospital has evolved into a vital part of the Illawarra health system,” Mr Rajcany said.

“We’ve expanded services, introduced modern treatments and built strong clinical teams, all while remaining focussed on providing safe, high-quality care close to home.”

Mr Rajcany said the hospital’s success over the past 10 years could be put down to its people.

“Our nurses, doctors and support teams are the foundation of everything we do,” he said.

“Many have been with us since the beginning, and their dedication and expertise have shaped the hospital community we are today.”

To mark the milestone, the hospital will also host a year-long program of anniversary activities throughout 2026, with monthly events recognising different departments, teams and community connections.

“These celebrations are a way to reflect on what we’ve achieved together and to thank the people who have supported the hospital over the past decade,” Mr Rajcany said.
