Wollongong Private Hospital, Ramsay Surgical Centre specialist David Swartz

Dr David Swartz

MBBS (Hons), FRACP

Dr Swartz practices in all aspects of gastroenterology, with a focus on high-quality colonoscopy, and diseases of the pancreas and bile ducts.

Philosophy of care statement:
“My approach to management of gastrointestinal disease, and to patient care in general, is to focus on the patient as an individual, rather than just someone with a set of symptoms or a disease label. To this end, I endeavour to investigate and manage people in a manner that is appropriate for their own situation, with the same dedication as I would a close friend or family member. I attempt to employ the most up-to-date evidence and endoscopic techniques to achieve the best possible outcome for all patients under my care.”

Dr Swartz graduated from medical school in Western Australia in 2001, and permanently relocated to NSW in 2003. His specialist training was undertaken at both Wollongong and Bankstown Hospitals, and he has been a practising Gastroenterologist since 2010.

Dr Swartz undertook post-fellowship training in Therapeutic and Interventional Endoscopy, at the prestigious Duke University Medical Centre in the USA. He is the only fellowship-trained interventional endoscopist in the Illawarra region.

After completing his international fellowship in 2013, Dr Swartz joined the gastroenterology practise of Dr Chris Hatton. Dr Swartz took over the running of this practise upon Dr Hatton’s retirement in 2016, where he works alongside gastroenterologists Dr Jeremy Humphris and Dr Dean Al-Hajirri.

He practices in all aspects of gastroenterology, with a focus on high-quality colonoscopy, and diseases of the pancreas and bile ducts. In addition to his private practice, Dr Swartz has appointments as a Staff Specialist at Wollongong Hospital, and a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the UOW School of Medicine.
