Dr Mario Malkoun

Dr Malkoun is a general surgeon with experience in laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy. He is trained in robotic surgery and offers the full spectrum of general surgery.

Dr Malkoun is a General surgeon with experience in laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy. After growing up in Sydney, he completed his undergraduate medical science degree at Sydney University and gained his Honours degree through the Westmead Millennium Institute in human genetics using DNA Microarray, a new technology at the time. He undertook his graduate medical degree at the University of Queensland and graduated with an MBBS in 2004. He decided to return to NSW for his internship and chose Wollongong Hospital where he also stayed on throughout his resident year. Dr Malkoun subsequently began his surgical training where he completed terms around NSW in hospitals such as St George in Kogarah, Coffs Harbour, Tweed Heads, Albury, Campbelltown and Wollongong. He later returned to Wollongong Hospital as a surgical fellow where he stayed for two years. He now lives in Wollongong full-time, consults in Wollongong and operates regularly at Wollongong Private Hospital.

He is happy to accept all general surgical referrals including:

  • Colorectal Surgery (haemorrhoid repair including ultrasound guided repair, anal fissure repair, abscess removal, removal of polyps, cancer screening and surgery)
