A/Prof David Greening is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He has been based in the Illawarra region of NSW since 2004.

He was born in New Zealand where he attended the University of Otago. His initial interest was in surgery, but then went on to complete his Obstetrics and Gynaecology training at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne after moving to Australia. Following this he had the opportunity to work in the area of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility where he took a position at the Human Assisted Reproduction Ireland (Dublin), then the Hammersmith IVF Unit (London) before being truly fortunate to achieve a fellow position at GENEA (then Sydney IVF) in Sydney. Finishing his final 2 years of training there he set up in practice in Wollongong in 2004.

In 2015, he saw that IVF was economically out of reach of many Illawarra patients and that IVF Australia had a number of units around Australia which addressed this. The outpatient model called ‘The Fertility Centre (TFC)’ and he joined IVF Australia to bring this model to Wollongong and the wider Illawarra region where he currently holds the position of Clinical Director.

A/Prof Greening has been associated with the University of Wollongong Medical School since inception as a senior lecturer, examiner and supervisor and they recently elevated him to (Honorary) Clinical Associate Professor where he thoroughly enjoys his relationship with the students and research team. He has ongoing research interests with the UOW both inventing instruments and other trials.

David has both Public and Private appointments as a VMO (Visiting Medical Officer) with ISLHD and Wollongong Private Hospital as well as the Wollongong Day surgery. That way he feels he can offer the best of both models to his patients.

One of the most satisfying experiences for A/Prof Greening is being able to support patients during their entire fertility journey from conception (whether assisted or natural), throughout their pregnancy and then delivering a beautiful baby. His obstetric patients are a nice mix of spontaneously conceived and those that have had fertility treatments and has delivered nearly 3000 local babies to date.

A/Prof Greening has private rooms on Crown Street Wollongong close to all main hospitals, two midwives who work closely with him and a dedicated, experienced, and loyal team of staff to assist him and his patients.
