A/Prof Peter Haertsch is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who undertakes a variety of cosmetic, reconstructive, hand and therapeutic surgeries.

Associate Professor Peter Haertsch is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Wollongong Hospital. He is also the co-director of the Concord Burns unit and is recognised for his major contribution to the field of burns surgery. He undertakes a variety of cosmetic, reconstructive, hand and therapeutic surgery, and has an interest in gender reassignment procedures.

Dr Haertsch undertook his medical training in Sydney University and trained as a General Surgeon in Edinburgh. After several years of practice in General Surgery in Sydney, he went to England and the United States to complete fellowships in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery including the McIndoe Burns Unit in East Grinstead, one of the world’s leading Burns Units.

Dr Haertsch has made a significant contribution to the plastic surgery literature, in particular to the burns literature. He is also committed to voluntary work and has travelled with Interplast to provide much needed work in developing countries.
