Associate Professor Alistair Reid sees patients with a variety of rheumatological conditions and has an interest in inflammatory conditions and infections/infection prevention in immunocompromised hosts.

Clinical Associate Professor Alistair Reid is a Rheumatologist who lives in the Illawarra with his young family. He sees patients with a variety of rheumatological conditions and has a particular interest in inflammatory conditions and infections/infection prevention in immunocompromised hosts. Alistair has a VMO appointment at both Wollongong Private Hospital and Nowra Private Hospital and consults from rooms at Seaview Clinic within Wollongong Private Hospital.

Having grown up in Tasmania and completing specialty training in Melbourne, Alistair moved to the Illawarra with his family in 2012 to take up a position as a staff specialist at Wollongong Hospital as an Infectious Diseases Physician. He soon fell in love with the Illawarra coastline and is now proud to call it home. 

Alistair was appointed Director of Physician Training at Wollongong Hospital in 2013 and later became the first Network Director of Physician Training for the Illawarra Medical Network.  These positions allowed Alistair to contribute to the evolution and improvement in medical services across the Illawarra through his passionate dedication to teaching and excellence in health.  Alistair continues to contribute to medical excellence through his position as Deputy Chair of the RACP Adult Medicine Accreditation Subcommittee, member of the RACP National Examination Panel, and appointment as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine.

Alistair returned to training to gain his qualification as a rheumatologist and is now the only dual trained Infectious Diseases and Rheumatology physician in Australia.  Alistair believes strongly in a patient centred approach to care with teamwork and communication critical amongst care providers.

Qualifications:

  • Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians with sub-specialty training in Infectious Diseases and Rheumatology
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours – University of Tasmania
  • Bachelor of Medical Science – University of Tasmania
